May 28, 2009 -Back over the pass

Sadly on Thursday it was time for me to head back to my side of the mountains. I had to pick up my parents. I hit the road at 7:45 so I had lots of time to stop and explore on my way back. I pulled off in the middle of the pass and Stampede Pass which is TROLLHAUGEN! I have only ever been up there in the winter so I thought this was the perfect time. I drove up to the lodge it is amazing how different it looks with out several feet of snow. Then I drove to the places where we cross country ski. In the last 5-10 years I have come to the conclusion that I don’t really enjoy cross country skiing. I am saddened by this (as well as my lack of desire to hike) but what do hiking and x-country sking have in common. To me the commonality is they are both boring. I am more into extreme sports that have speed and action. But I still love the pretty scenery of the mountains that can only be skied to in winter….but not in the summer. In the summer the car can make it out there. So I drove out to some of my favorite spots. I didn’t go as far into the woods as I would have liked because I figured if I had to call AAA they don’t go off paved roads and I was already 3 miles from pavement (+ very spotty cellphone reception) and since no one knew where I was I figured that probably was a good decision. However, if I had not turned up I am pretty sure it would have been one of the first places my parents looked for me ( I know most people don’t think of that kind of stuff what can I say I do)
