June 4-6, 2011- Rock Training

The second week we moved right into Rock Assistant Training. We moved to a campground in Icicle Canyon so we were close to the rock sites. We learned all the skills we need to facilitate a rock day for students.

Rock climbing would take a lot less managing if we just belayed students ourselves but we feel that students belaying their friends is a huge part of the experience.  The trust that is built between the climber and belayer can't be replicated in other ways. Because we allow the students to belay eachother we have a rock guide at each station close enough to handle any situations that might come up. We also have a back up belayer as well to be extra prepared.
