June 11, 2011- Oral Bible Story Telling

A gal came in that travels around the world teaching people to tell stories. The idea is that a lot of the population doesn’t know how to read so even if they had a bible in their own language they wouldn’t even know how to read it. Those cultures use oral storytelling to pass down traditions so is it possible that someone in one of those countries could be a pastor without ever actually reading the bible because they would know so much from oral stories passed down to them. Her thought for America is what are the tips and tricks they use for remembering stories and how can we use those skills to pass along stories of Jesus down to students so that we remember them. How many 3 point sermons do we actually remember? Yet we want the stories of Jesus to be remembered even after students leave the walls of our churches or in our case get on the bus and go home.
